I didn't know this gentleman, wasn't sure if or how to present his story here, but I'm troubled & haunted by it just the same. He was a 26 year old, well-known lighting designer and he was found dead in his NYC apartment wearing a latex suit with his hands bound behind his back. He was also wearing a gasmask. Because the apartment was locked from the inside and nothing seemed to be stolen & he didn't seem to suffer any physical bodily trauma, it's believed this was an incident of self-play gone awry. (Perhaps a gas mask malfunction, etc.)

The reason I'm posting this is, because even though I post and observe and blog about what I like & perhaps am not as active in the real-life fetish community as I'd like to be, I think we all need to be careful in our play...whether by ourselves or with partner(s). We NEED to take care of ourselves and, to a certain extent, each other.

I've tried what I'll call breath-control lite and a bit of self-bondage...but not at the same time. I don't think the 2 are a good combination. While it remains to be seen whether this was the case here or not, I still think the message about the risks of combination of bondage & breath-control is timely and always important.

I know both of their involvment in the fetish community is deeper so I know this message is important on many levels.
